ABOUT BUDAPEST

Budapest is one of those cities that is often overlooked. Why this is the case, we don’t know. We’ve only been in Budapest for a couple of days, but can truly say this has been on of our favorite citytrips. Budapest has even been ranked the second most beautiful city in the world. It just feels right to stroll around here. Down below we’ll explain you why.

WHAT TO DO IN BUDAPEST

  • Take a dip in the Széchenyi Thermal Baths

  • Do an architectural highlight tour

  • Have a drink at the Ruin Bars

Take a dip in the Széchenyi Thermal Baths

Budapest is well known for its thermal baths. There are quite a few options to choose from. The Széchenyi thermal baths (try to pronounce that) are our favorite. Why? It is just the most beautiful one. It has these mineral-rich baths, with startling blue pools set against a backdrop of a grand neo-baroque palace. It’s also a luxurious one, especially when coupled with a visit to the spa, which offers everything from saunas and mudpacks to rejuvenating massages and balneal therapies. You can drink beer while in a beer bath!

Parliament Building

There is a lot of nice architecture in Budapest. If you’re a fan of strolling around the city and visiting al these man made wonders, you should try the ones we’ve gathered for you down below. If you’re not and you’re more of a stick to a nice place and have a drink type of person, scroll down. We combined both actually. We went to see some of these places and rewarded ourselves with a nice cold beer afterwards, since Budapest can be really hot and a trip like this can be exhausting.

  • Parliament Building

  • Aquincum Museum and Ruin Garden

  • Hungarian State Opera House

  • Fisherman’s Bastion

  • Dohány Street Synagogue

Have a drink at the Ruin Bars

If you scrolled down after the previous chapter you can stop here :) The ruin bars are a nice collection of bars where you can dance, have a drink or just hang out. When you arrive here, it looks like a complete mess. But that’s the fun part of it. The location of the bars is in some old buildings or ‘ruins’, hence the name. This complete mess is actually beautiful, with each bar its own style and weird but cool interior. You could say it is kind of a hipster-esque place. All of these bars are unique in their own way, but the best one in our opinion is Szimpla Kert, which simply means simple garden.

Where to eat & drink in Budapest

Ruin Bars

Yes you can eat here as well. We’ve tried multiple bars and they were all nice. You probably can’t go wrong here.

Dobrumba

A bit more upscale than the Ruin Bars but damn tasty. It is located in the Jewish Quarter, an energetic area where it seems like there are nothing but nice places to eat & drink

Sáo food & bar

A citytrip of ours wouldn’t be complete without having tried some Eastern food. We found it again in Budapest. Sáo food & bar has stilled the hunger of at least one of us (Bren), a big fan of the Eastern kitchen. Critical and strict as he is when it comes to this food, this one passes the test. By far.

Hi, we are Bren and Tess! We travel to the most beautiful places in the world, and with our video's, we hope you feel inspired to do the same.
