ABOUT PASSO DEL TONALE
Passo del Tonale is a little town (or pass) inbetween the Dolomites mountain range. Most people visit these mountains during spring or summer to hike. What few people know, is that the Dolomites are great for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding as well. We have been here for a week, and will give you the best tips down below!
WHAT TO DO IN PASSO DEL TONALE
Ski (or snowboard)
Après-Ski
It is really that simple. Tonale is a small pass which is fully adapted for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. The place has everything to make your trip unforgettable, with plenty of nice slopes from beginning to expert, the best après-ski options and a handful of Italian ristorantes.
Ski (or snowboard)
Skiing or snowboarding or of course the main activities in the pass of Tonale. We decided to go skiing, but snowboarding is also a good option to practice over here. Tonale has divided the slopes in three levels:
Blue
Red
Black
Blue is the easiest, black is the hardest. It depends on your expertise which slopes you decide to do. We started off with blue and did some red ones as well. Black slopes are really for the pro’s. Since we are no pro's (Tess is a semi-pro) we decided to skip these.
Skiing routes
We have gathered some favorite skiing routes for you on the map down below. The blue arrow means it is a blue slope, the red arrow means it is a red slope. Our favorite slope was the glacier slope, called Passo Presena. You can take the lift all the way to the top and it gives you breatthaking views of the mountains. When you ski down, you will ski inbetween those mountains which gives a feeling of absolute serenity. The middle bottom part is the busiest part, where you will find the (beginner) ski and snowboard lessons as well.

Ski lessons
If you’re a beginner, you can take ski lessons. This is not something to be ashamed of! We thought it was dull at the beginning, but it is actually quite fun. You go with a small group and together you will work your way up through challenges. We highly recommend this if you have never skied (or snowboarded) before. If you’re a pro, there is fun park as well, where you can show of your tricks.
These lessons are really worth it!
Night skiing
Another fun and unique activity that is possible in Tonale is night skiiing. On tuesdays and thursdays, one of the slopes (a blue one) will open from 9 till 11. You will be able to experience going down the slopes in a whole different way, which is really a thrilling experience. You don’t even have to pay anything, just have you ski pas ready.

Après-Ski
Now let’s talk about the thing everybody came for ;) Après-Ski. It originally refers to a French term where people would change their uncomfortable skiing shoes for more comfortable snow shoes, which they would do after skiing (après-ski). Now it has translated to something entirely different, which involves a lot of partying and drinking.
Redival
Passo del Tonale has a couple of Après-Ski bars. Then can all be found at the bottom of the slope, which is a lot safer than the ones where they have them on the slopes and you have to ski or snowboard down afterwards. Our favorite bar is Redival. They are in a great location, right at the bottom of the slopes. They also have this great sunset vibe, which together provides a great setting to start your Après-Ski party.
