ABOUT THE PROVENCE

The southern French region Provence is known for its vineyards, colored lavender lanes and picturesque hilltop villages. France is rich in campsites and thats why we recommend discovering the Provence with your own camper. You can get anywhere and so you can discover everything there is to experience in the region. If you have a week or less to spent time in the Provence, you can visit the highlight stops as we described in this article. But if you have more than a week, we recommend to make more stops in the cute hilltop villages. You can spot a lot of them from the main road and most of them are worth it for a nice coffee and a croissant.

MIRMANDE AND GRIGNAN

Mirmande is a typical French hilltop village with many boutiques and restaurants. On the way to this village you will be welcomed by fields with beautiful white and pink blossom trees. Mirmande is typified by art and that is reflected in the many art shops that the village is rich of. There are quite a few restaurants in Mirmande where the French courtyards are lit with warm lights. For a good cup of coffee you should definitely go to the garden of Dimanche.

Grignan is another typical mountain village and is especially recommended if you are looking for some wine in the sun with a cheese platter. In the center of Grignan there are a number of terraces, where it is always pleasantly busy.

VALENSOLE

To see this piece of beautiful nature you will have to plan it out well. The lavender fields only bloom for a few weeks and the rest of the year they are just rows of dried out bushes. From June to mid-July you will have a completely different experience, bright purple bands of lavender characterize the area and it is a joy to drive through. If you want to learn more about the lavender, you can stop for a tour at a farm. We went to Valensole in March and although there were no purple bright colors to be seen, we still thought the area was beautiful and worth it to visit. Check out the photos below and judge for yourself.

GORGES DU VERDON

The Gorges du Verdon is one of the largest river gorges in Europe with a length of about 25 kilometers and has rock walls of about 700 meters high. But we actually found the azure blue color of the water the most impressive of the location. There are many viewpoints to be found, each of which offers a beautiful view of the lake. Many of these viewpoints can be found on Google Maps so get into the car and park wherever you feel like.

After exploring the Gorges du Verdon by car, it's time to dive in a bit more. Literally and figuratively. Looking at the bright blue color of the water, your first thought is probably to jump in and take a relaxing swim. Besides swimming, there are a lot of other activities to do, such as canoeing, pedal boating or go for a boat tour.

SAINT TROPEZ

Saint Tropez is a well-known French port city which is surprisingly not very big. People all over the world dock their yachts here to drink a nice wine on a terrace while enjoying the sun. We were quite skeptical when we went to Saint Tropez for the first time because we were not sure if Saint Tropez was a fun place for people without a yacht or for young travelers to visit. That answer can be very personal, but in our opinion Saint Tropez is a place with character and therefore worth a visit.
