Explore the city by foot

The best way to explore Venice is by foot. Why? Because it is the best way to get lost. Venice is a city where you want to get lost, because this way you’ll experience Venice at its best. Just follow your intuition, your eyes or your nose, it doesn’t matter. You’ll probably end up somewhere nice, since the whole city is filled with charming places. If you want to evade as many tourists as you can, head over to the Cannaregio, Castello or the Giudecca sestieri. This is where the locals live and is located in the center of Venice. Fancy the hotspots? Then you should cross off these places:

  • San Marco (you can even climb the tower)

  • Rialto Bridge

  • Doge’s Palace

  • Bridge of Sighs

  • Scala Contarini Del Bovolo

venice what to do

Explore the city by gondola

It seems a bit cliché and tourist trap-ish at first. And it is. But the whole city thrives because of tourism. And to keep Venice accessible for people like you and us, why not contribute a little bit? Because of this reason we decided to give the gondola tour a go. It will cost you around €80,- per 40 minutes, but you can negotiate.

To be honest, it didn’t disappoint. You’ll see Venice from a whole different perspective. However, it also depends on the gondolier of the gondola. Try to interact with him and ask questions about Venice, it will definitely make your trip worthwhile. He’ll maybe even sing for you ;)
