ABOUT BARCELONA

Barcelona is one of those cities which has it all. Multiple barrios all with their own style, super nice food and a very nice beach. Even the weather is always good in Barcelona. This makes it a city worth visiting, to say the least.

Rent a means of transportation

Normally we would advise you to hire a bike and explore a new city like this, since it is the healthiest and most obvious option but Barcelona has a lot of options which are all fun. We’ve seen people using the most craziest stuff as means of transportation, such as electric steps, bikes, scooters, segways, one wheelers, basically everything that has wheels. The good part is they’re all for rent. We used the Cooltra app, which is super handy and quick to install. This allowed us to visit a lot of places which we normally wouldn’t visit because we’ve only spent a few days here. These where mainly famous hotspots. Normally we would skip these and focus more on the local stuff, but since we were so mobile we could do both. The famous hotspots we visited are:

  • Sagrada Família (for the best view: Bar-Terraza Ayre Rosselló)

  • Catedral de Barcelona

  • Parc Guëll

  • Arc de Triomf

  • Las Ramblas

Note: these places are beautiful, but very crowded

Discover the local hotspots

Gothic neighborhood

When we visit a new place, we want to experience it as a local experiences it. Barcelona has a few of them. Our favorite is walking through the Gothic neighborhood. You’ll find some tourists, but most of them can be found at La Catedral from the picture above. This one is in the middle of the neighborhood. Next to the cathedral you’ll find beautiful architecture everywhere you look. If you decide to visit this place do not skip plaza Reial and Carrer del Bisbe.

El Born

Next to the Gothic neighborhood you have the bohemian neighborhood of El Born. This is where most of the cool and stylish locals hang out. Also, if you’re looking for a party at night, this is it. El Born has some nice streets which you can discover such as Carrer de l'Argenteria, Grunyí, Mirallers and Brosolí.

Chill at the beach

Barcelona has, as earlier mentioned, a nice beach. Not many cities have the privilege of having this, let alone such a nice one. Allright, it is not a tropical beach with turquoise water. But it does have palmtrees and gives you that vacation beachy vibe. It also gives this energetic feel since a lot of people workout here or play sports. You even have a lot of different beach bars. In short, you can spent the whole day here if you like.

Where to eat & drink in Barcelona

Flax & Kale

This is by far the best restaurant we’ve had lunch and dinner in Barcelona. It is fully biological, and their dishes come straight out of heaven. It is one of those places where no matter what you order everything is good. They even grow their own herbs in the middle of the roof terrace.

Surf House

One of the best places to eat close to the beach. Surf House is literally on the boulevard, which means it is a great place to eat or have a drink after a day at the beach. It has some delicious meals for you. Try the poké bowl if you like fish.

Fitbar

The Fitbar is an amazing healthy option if you are on the go and want to grab a quick meal. You can create your own bowl, which contains yoghurt, chia, whey protein (GAINS!), fresh fruits, granola and so on. It is located in the Gothic quarter which means it is the perfect place to grab a meal when exploring this area.

Extra: go on a ferry

A little bonus: Barcelona also has a docking harbor for ferries to the Balearic islands. We couldn’t let this opportunity pass and decided to add a few days to our trip. We made the choice to go with Baleària ferries. It is very easy to book a trip and within a couple hours you’ll be at a Balearic island of your choice. We had a hard time picking one of these islands, but in the end we went for: Menorca!
